Giới thiệu sách Một số sách micro-history, kể chuyện dầu mỏ, muối, khoai tây... trong lịch sử

Đại loại đây là thể loại kể chuyện lịch sử của một đối tượng nào đó, qua đó thấy được sự tác động của nó đối với lịch sử, văn hóa, chiến tranh, di cư... Mình đọc xong một cuốn sách về chocolate, tự nhiên khi cầm thanh chocolate trong tay sẽ thấy khác đi, thú vị hơn hẳn: "À, thì ra là mày đã có lịch sử thế này, thế kia..." Đọc xong quyển sách về dầu mỏ, thấy việc đổ xăng đầy bình có ý nghĩa khác hẳn, hehe. Xin trích từ danh sách của goodreads, giới thiệu vài quyển cho bạn đọc nào quan tâm đọc chơi cho biết. Mình chưa đọc hết tất cả những cuốn này, chỉ là đọc giới thiệu thấy hấp dẫn quá. Ước mong sao có ai đó dịch ra tiếng Việt mấy cuốn để mình đọc cho nhanh.

Tác phẩm này có thể được coi là cuốn sử thi thế giới thông qua nhân vật chính là Dầu mỏ.
Trong cuốn sách, tác giả mô tả khá chính xác vóc dáng và bản chất của ngành công nghiệp dầu khí. Từ địa vị chưa mấy được chú ý vào đầu thế kỷ XX, dầu mỏ, với tư cách một nhân tố tạo nên sức mạnh quốc gia, đã khẳng định tầm quan trọng của nó ngay trong Chiến tranh thế giới thứ nhất, khi những chiếc máy bay chạy bằng động cơ đốt trong soán ngôi của các phương tiện di chuyển dùng ngựa và than. Đến giữa thế kỷ XX, rất ít người còn hoài nghi về vai trò quan trọng không thể thiếu của dầu mỏ trong cán cân năng lượng toàn cầu. Nửa cuối của thế kỷ XX, thế giới chứng kiến sự bứt phá và chiếm lĩnh vị trí thống soái của dầu mỏ và khí thiên nhiên với nền công nghiệp và dịch vụ xã hội, bỏ xa nhiên liệu hóa thạch truyền thống là than đá.

Lịch sử của mật mã là câu chuyện về cuộc chiến kéo dài hàng thế kỷ giữa người lập mã và người giải mã, cuộc chạy đua vũ khí trí tuệ đã có tác động rất to lớn đến tiến trình của lịch sử.
Khi viết cuốn Mật mã này, tác giả có hai mục đích chính.
Một là nhằm phác họa sự tiến hóa của mật mã. Từ tiến hóa dùng ở đây là hoàn toàn thích hợp vì sự phát triển của mật mã cũng có thể coi là một cuộc đấu tranh tiến hoá. Một mật mã luôn bị người phá mã tấn công. Khi người phá mã đã tìm ra một vũ khí mới để phát hiện điểm yếu của một mật mã thì mật mã đó không còn hữu dụng nữa. Khi đó hoặc nó sẽ bị xoá sổ hoặc nó sẽ được cải tiến thành một loại mật mã mới, mạnh hơn.
Đến lượt mình, mật mã mới này chỉ phát triển mạnh mẽ cho tới khi người phá mã lại xác định được điểm yếu của nó, và cứ tiếp tục mãi như vậy. Điều này cũng tương tự như tình huống đối mặt với một giống vi khuẩn gây bệnh chẳng hạn. Vi khuẩn sống, phát triển mạnh và tồn tại cho đến khi bác sĩ tìm ra chất kháng sinh làm lộ ra những điểm yếu của vi khuẩn và tiêu diệt nó. Vi khuẩn buộc phải tiến hoá và lừa lại kháng sinh, và nếu thành công thì chúng sẽ lại phát triển mạnh mẽ và tái xác lập trở lại. Vi khuẩn liên tục bị buộc phải tiến hoá để sống sót trước sự tấn công dữ dội của các loại kháng sinh mới.

Mình rất thích đọc về các loại cây trồng, đặc biệt mê khoai tây và cafe, mà mấy cuốn về muối và đường cũng có vẻ hay.

Ước to hơn nữa là có ai lập dự án dịch thành tủ sách micro-history để thỏa lòng tò mò của bà con đọc sách

P/S: Ngoài "Dầu mỏ", còn có cuốn "Mật mã", "Đồng tiền lên ngôi" đã được dịch và phát hành rồi đó bạn. Mình đã đọc quyển này, rất hay và dễ hiểu. Bạn nào có thể làm ebook cho mọi người thì tốt quá. Mình đang đọc cuốn How States Got Their Shapes và Just My Type, thấy cũng dễ đọc mà lại ngắn ngắn, cỡ 300 trang à. Nên nếu bạn nào muốn lập dự án dịch thì mình recommend 2 cuốn này.

 

Mình thì không làm chủ dự án được rồi, vì mình biết khả năng mình không đủ cho một dự án dịch thuật, cũng không có đủ thời gian nữa, chỉ có sẵn sàng làm "chân chạy" cho một bạn nào khác có khả năng hơn thôi. Và cũng sẵn sàng "ôm" 1 hay 2 chương gì đó!!!! Hi!

 

Mình nhớ cái nói về font chữ có làm thành phim tài liệu HTT Group phụ đề Việt rồi thì phải, xem trên youtube.
