Osho (11 tháng 12 năm 1931 – 19 tháng 1 năm 1990) tên thật là Chandra Mohan Jain (Tiếng Hindi: चन्द्र मोहन जैन), còn được gọi là Acharya Rajneesh từ những năm 1960 trở đi, sau đấy ông tự gọi mình là Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh trong thập niên 1970 và 1980, rồi cuối cùng lấy tên Osho năm 1989. Ông là nhà thần bí và bậc thầy tâm linh người Ấn Độ. Lời dạy của ông đã có một tác động nhất định đến phong trào New Age ở phương Tây, và sự nổi tiếng của họ đã tăng lên đáng kể từ khi ông qua đời. Osho từng là giáo sư triết học tại Đại học Jabalpur và đi khắp Ấn Độ trong những năm 1960 để thuyết giảng trước đông đảo quần chúng. Quan điểm của ông chống lại tôn giáo được thể chế đã gây ra nhiều tranh cãi. Ông cũng chủ trương một thái độ cởi mở hơn với tình dục, và vì thế mà ông có biệt danh là sex guru - đạo sư tình dục ở Ấn Độ và sau này là trên báo chí quốc tế. Trong thực tế, các bài nói về tình dục của Osho chiếm tỉ lệ nhỏ so với những chủ đề mà ông nói tới. Trong năm 1981, Osho chuyển sang định cư ở Hoa Kỳ và các đệ tử của ông đã thành lập một cộng đồng quốc tế ở đây, nó có tên là Rajneeshpuram, thuộc bang Oregon. Trong thời gian khoảng 1 năm, lãnh đạo của cộng đồng có những mâu thuẫn với cư dân địa phương chủ yếu liên quan đến vấn đề sử dụng đất đai.
